It only takes a couple of notes to realize that the music of Algiers is different from the bulk of the music out today. With tweaks of soul and R&B infused with rock, the band’s latest release There Is No Year is their most realized album to date. Between the album’s release and a successful tour schedule, the band recently dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the result is bombastic.
What’s so stirring here is the amount of emotional weight behind the performance. While the song played “Dispossession” is already rife with emotion from the vocals, it seeps through here with more weight. The mix of the instrumentation backed by backup singers, Algiers brings the heaviest of energy to the song while still containing its softer side like on the album.
The performance can be seen above or on YouTube. There Is No Year is available to stream on all services or to purchase in all digital outlets. The album is also available for physical purchase directly from Matador Records. Algiers is on tour February 05 in London, UK at Village Underground until May 04 in Zurich, Switzerland at Bogen F. Their complete tour schedule is located here.
