The magical tones that emit from behind the kit as Sunny Jain leads brass band Red Baraat are like no one else. Jain, a consummate artist in his own right, is readying himself for his new album to drop in a couple of weeks. With Wild Wild East due in late February, the singer songwriter has released a new single “Red Brown Black” featuring Haseeb. The biggest difference here is in the vocals, with a more hip hop tone than anything Jain has released in the past.
While the rhythms and melodies beneath the vocals create a swirl of tones, the vocals by Haseeb lift the song into a more hip hop world. This opens your ears in so many ways, not only proving that Jain is ahead of many of his contemporaries, but bold enough to try new things. The arrangements and flow are more terse, but also offer a complete reworked sound that’s free and without limitations for the genre to move forward.
The song can be streamed on all streaming sites or above. Wild Wild East is available for preorder directly from Smithsonian Folkways ahead of its February 21 release. Sunny Jain is on tour starting February 15 at Film “Sholay” in Washington, DC until April 22 at The Public Theater in New York, NY. His complete tour schedule is available here.
