Fall For the Folk Filled Melodies of Gabe Hascall

Depending on where you live, you may have never heard the name Gabe Hascall. Around his hometown of Austin, Texas, Hascall is an artist who’s well known. From his time in the bands The Impossibles and Slowreader, Hascall has made quite the impression on the “capitol of live music.” Now performing as a solo artist, Hascall is ready to reveal another side. Armed with melodies for days and a folk tinged touch that’s hard to dislike, he’s dropped his lead single “Outlawed” off his upcoming album Thousands of Thorns. While the full length won’t be available until April, you should find yourself falling for his infectious sound the moment the track starts.

From the hearty vocals that open the song to the acoustic strums, Hascall has your attention from the jump. The heavy mix of instrumentation between keys and noodles, Hascall takes on a sound that in some ways should remind you of the work Elliott Smith employed on XO. Not a copy by any means but similar in tone, Hascall has the melodious and hooks down and holds your ears from beginning to end. It’s a catchy little diversion that contains a lot of depth in a short run time.

“Outlawed” is ready to stream above or on Soundcloud. Thousands of Thorns can be preordered directly from Austin Town Hall Records ahead of its April 10 release date. Gabe Hascall is set to perform at Mohawk in Austin, TX on April 11.
