It seems that the Hot Snakes are a band that you can’t keep down. With plenty more touring to do this year, the band has released a new song “I Shall Be Free” that steers a bit closer to their earlier works. Not to be outdone, they’ve also released a video for the song, animated by Tiger Reis, son of guitarist John Reis.
Opening with snarls and that drop tuned tone, the band launches into a heavier tone. It’s a bit like their work on their earlier releases, with Rick Froberg’s vocals raspy and howling. The pacing and the hooks are there, and it’s just pure rock the way Hot Snakes have always done things. The video is black & white animation where the imagery consistently morphs from one object into another. Sometimes dark, sometimes violent, the video pairs perfectly with the song. Especially in the latter part of the track when things become more instrumental.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song is ready to stream on all streaming sites or to purchase digitally from all digital music stores or from Sub Pop. Hot Snakes are on tour February 22 in Chicago, IL at Music Frozen Dancing 2020 until March 12 in Solana Beach, CA at Belly Up. Their complete tour schedule is accessible here.
