When groups are together for a good while, it can either mean that they fall into a state of mediocrity or the evolve above what anyone could imagine. Luckily for fans of Thievery Corporation, the latter is the case. Together since 1995, the duo has gotten better with age. With a new album Symphonik set for release in April, the group’s new single “Sweet Tides” echoes that this could be their most ambitious album to date.
This version recorded with the Prague FILMharmonic Orchestra also features longtime vocal collaborator Lou Lou Ghelickhani. The end result is a new tone for the duo. Shedding some of the more electronic elements from what they’re known for, the orchestral tones are staggering. Mix those with the vocals and the song hits you perfectly. The hooks are there but creep up on you in a subtle manner, then force the song into your head as you listen.
The song can be streamed on all platforms or purchased from all outlets. Symphonik is available for preorder directly from all digital music stores. There are no current tour dates for Thievery Corporation, but that may change soon.
