Waxahatchee Sounds Refreshed on New Single

By all accounts, Waxahatchee has garnered plenty of attention from her music. With the differences between her last release Great Thunder, the EP was a tender glimpse into the world of Katie Crutchfield. Prior to that, the eviscerate rock album Out In The Storm was released, and had enough hooks to go fishing with. Now ahead of her new album Saint Cloud, Crutchfield appears to be blending the two sounds into one, and her new single “Lilacs” is full of charm.

The song opens with plenty of Southern charm, only bookmarked by Crutchfield’s emotive voice. The way the click of the drums and the guitar compliment her vocals, creates a compelling tone that’s hard to shake. The upbeat pacing, the way her vocals are at the top of the mix just mean that you take it all in like it’s happening with you. The video features dancer Marlee Grace whomoves like she’s taken over by the song’s intensity.

The video can be watched above or on YouTube. Saint Cloud can be preordered ahead of its March 27 release directly from Merge Records. Waxahatchee is on tour starting April 10 in Detroit, MI at Jam Handy until August 08 in Waynesville, OH at Bellwether Music Festival. Her complete tour schedule is located here
