Throughout his career, M. Ward has given those who adore great music plenty of songs that take you to another place. While the world waits for what’s ext in these trying times, his new single “Unreal City” off of his upcoming album Migration Stories does just that. The video alone will brighten your day while the song itself with warm your insides.
The video works because of its playful nature and its fun and interactive style. The black and white film helps it pop more than if it were in color. But it’s the song that really draws your ears. The hand claps mixed with doo wop vocals that play with Ward’s vocals give the song a bop pacing. The way he ties the bridge to the chorus with ease is masterful while the head bopping song moves along. Ward is checking multiple boxes here. The upbeat stride gives the track plenty of snap and the group dynamic keeps the song in your head well after you hear it.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song is ready to stream wherever you stream music. Migration Stories can be preordered directly from Anti Records in multiple formats and bundles before its April 03 release. M. Ward is on tour beginning October 27 in Edinburgh, UK at The Caves until November 07 in Stockholm, Sweden at Sodra Teatern. His complete tour routing is available here.
