The Mountain Goats have seemed to hit a creative stride in recent years, releasing plenty of material to keep their fans happy. While in the midst of the fifteen day sheltering we’re all going through, it seems that chief songwriter for the band John Darnielle isn’t slowing down either. In a Facebook video, Darnielle released a new song “For the Snakes” live and it’s everything you love about the folk group’s music.
The folk vibes are strong here, as Darnielle belts the song almost as quickly as he begins. The acoustic strums have a nice organic hook and the vocals offer that genuine quality that the band’s music has always generated. There’s a nice bridge as well while Darnielle hits higher notes as the song plays out. The video itself is endearing and the song will sound great wherever it lands.
There’s no word of a release date yet, or where the song may end up. The video can be viewed above or on Facebook. The band’s last full length In League With Dragons can be purchased in multiple formats directly from Merge Records. The band is scheduled to begin touring on April 26 at The Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina, but the dates could be rescheduled. The band’s dates can be accessed here.
