For a while now, it’s been apparent that Cass McCombs is one of the best songwriters around. Almost like a modern day Jackson Browne, his latest full length Tip of the Sphere proved his skills were on a level of their own. Now in partnership with Universal Audio, McCombs has released a new song “The Wine of Lebanon.” While his game is still strong and the song is near perfectly arranged, you can see him in the studio recording the track as well.
Intermingling piano and hints of meandering ambiance, McCombs gets a bit of yacht rock in on the song. With his vocals and the instruments cut by a jazzy guitar, he reminds us more of his strengths as a performer and songwriter. The video shows McCombs in the studio recording the track. While it’s a glimpse into his process, the song will stay with you well after it finishes.
You can view the video above or stream the single on all streaming sites. Universal Audio has offered a free download of the song from their LUNA Sessions series located here. Tip of the Sphere can be purchased on various physical formats directly from Anti Records.
