For a lot of music lovers, vocals are the heart and soul of any song. For fans of Sharon Van Etten this rings especially true. For a new single and video, a cover of the Nick Lowe classic “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?,” Van Etten tenderly offers her voice to the lovely penned track. Enlisting Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age as well, the two take on the track with ease and offer a soft way to fall for the song all over again.
The video shot on phones with everyone in quarantine also features appearances from Nick Lowe and Zach Dawes. The song however is where the true magic lies. Taking a slower stride than when the song was covered by Elvis Costello, Van Etten reveals plenty of heft in her delivery of the track. Of course she gets a bit of help by Homme who offers his timbre up as well, making the song more balanced and more memorable as well.
The song can be streamed on all services or purchased in all digital outlets via Jagjaguwar. The video is ready to watch on YouTube or above. Sharon Van Etten will perform a live-stream of her debut album in its entirety on May 29. Tickets to the event are available for purchase here.
