Years before anyone considered an American Football reunion, singer and guitarist for the band Mike Kinsella was making music under the name Owen. Under that moniker, some of the best indie folk and at times singer songwriter songs emerged from his one man style. On his new single “On With The Show,” Owen incorporates more instruments to bring the sound to a more indie rock tone while still creating magical music with each note, signalling what his new album The Avalanche may sound like.
The instrumentation as are the arrangements here are lush and rife with sound. Owen doesn’t allow for much dead space here, as multiple tones fill the air. Among his acoustic strumming and vocals, the drums and the bass lay the groundwork before the song continually blooms. Kinsella is firing on all cylinders here, delivering a more honed sound that’s beautifully crafted like a hand penned love letter.
“On With The Show” can be heard above. The Avalanche is available for preorder on various formats and in multiple bundles from Polyvinyl Records. It will be made available everywhere when it releases on June 19. Owen is scheduled to start touring July 23 at Fox Cabaret in Vancouver, Canada until November 06 at Sleeping Village in Chicago, IL. Due to COVID-19, these shows could be subject to rescheduling. His complete tour schedule is accessible here.
