Three decades into a career, the Old 97’s still seem to have that spark that made them who they are today. There’s always been little hints of sorcery between the band’s tones and Rhett Miller’s vocals. Now with a new album Twelfth announced to come in August, the band’s lead single “Turn Off The TV” shows that the group carries no signs of slowing down.
While the video features a whole lot of televisions, the music has plenty of power. Alongside the twangy undertones, the band sounds fresher than ever. The stride of the song is catchy and quick, the squeals from the guitars come quick and Miller sounds more youthful than he has in years. This is a return to form where the band sounds closer to a band in their twenties than a band that’s been around as long as they have. There’s no loss here as the group gets you excited for what the new album will ultimately sound like.
The video for “Turn Off The TV” is viewable above of on YouTube. The single can be streamed on all streaming sites. Twelfth is ready to preorder on multiple formats directly from ATO Records ahead of its August 21 release.
