In May we were all pleasantly surprised when Melbourne’s Cut Copy came back with a new single. After years out of the game, the four piece came rolling back with a song that showcased a new direction in terms of their electronic sound. Now with a new album Freeze, Melt announced to drop in August, the Australian heavyweights have released a new song “Cold Water.”
Complete with ambient touches and a hypnotic synth, the band opes the track up with a calming tone. When the vocals show up, the song begins to have elements added as the pace ticks up. The hook is essentially how the track is structured where varying melodies dance about, making the song difficult to dislike. The beat alone comes in later but just adds to what the Australian group brings to their sound. The video feels like the almost stock footage of a window and the ocean are well paired to show the balance of the track.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song is ready to stream on all platforms. Freeze, Melt can be preordered directly from Cutters Records/The Orchard on multiple formats ahead of its August 21 street date. Cut Copy is scheduled to perform at Vida Festival on July 02 in Vilanova I La Geltru, Spain and at Stereoleto Festival on July 04 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Their complete tour schedule is available here. Due to COVID-19, these dates could be subject to reschedule or change.
