California’s Silversun Pickups have been doing things their own way for a good while now. With their latest full length Widow’s Weeds, they proved they still have plenty of fire while expanding their sound more than in recent years. Now they’ve covered the Martika hit song “Toy Soldiers” and it’s quick to notice that they’ve added their own touch to the track as well.
The song, produced by Butch Vig shows how the band can take a song everyone knows and add their version to the tale of the track. Making it their own, the vocals alone offer a vastly different take on the popular song. Though you know it’s the same song when the chorus comes in, the way the band sways throughout before touching on explosive moments shows how well honed they are together. The video has its own weight as well, using imagery of the members as the track plays out and reminds everyone how solid the band is.
The video can be seen above or on YouTube. The song is ready to hear on all streaming platforms or it can be purchased in digital outlets. Widow’s Weeds is available to purchase physically directly from the band’s web store.
