The phrase “unreleased songs” doesn’t really apply to bands that have been around as long as The Rolling Stones. The iconic rock band has revealed more material in their time together than some cities filled with artists. However with the reissue of the band’s classic album Goats Head Soup, the song “Scarlet” featuring Jimmy Page finally sees the light of day. One of several unreleased tracks on the stereo remaster of the album, the song also features the late Traffic and Blind Faith bassist Rick Grech.
The 1974 session shows how well Mick Jagger meshes with Ron Wood and Page. The sway of Page’s playing intertwines with the more blues based sound that the icons brought to their music in that era. Grech can be heard cutting through the guitars in a prominent way as Jagger delivers his patented swagger between all of the instruments.
“Scarlet” is ready to hear above or on all streaming platforms. The reissue of Goats Head Soup is available for preorder through Polydor/Interscope Records in various bundles and formats ahead of its September 04 release date.
