For several years the name Moji Abiola has been one of those names that I feel like no one should forget. Performing under the name MOJI, there’s something hypnotic about her voice that draws listeners in with ease and repose. On her new single “SILENCE” she turns to the piano as her lead while her vocals feel like the instrument. The result is stunning and difficult to forget.
The third song in a series of single that will make up her debut solo E.P. Women of a Certain Age, the track isn’t hard by any means but it does hit you hard. The stark balance between the piano and MOJI’s voice offers a tonal quality that delivers a hypnotic timbre. The jazz graced notes of the piano mixed with her smoky voice evoke the feel of a song being performed in a smoke filled club with just one spotlight on the singer. At times the song also sways into moments that not only stay with you, but take you away from your life before you heard the single.
“SILENCE” is available to stream on all streaming platforms. It can also be purchased digitally through Bandcamp.
