Houston’s Narrow Head is definitely proving that pedal heavy guitar rock still has a space in the modern music industry. With their new album 12th House Rock set to hit record stores in the end of this month, the band has just unleashed a new single that goes hard an heavy. “Hard To Swallow” has just enough power to remind you of early Helmet without copping any riffs in the process.
Opening with a downward riff, the song soon opens up with a more hearty stride. Between the fuzz heavy notes and the bombastic drums, the vocals peer through like a puppy through blinds. The screams that come in mix well with the distorted tones and add heft to an already heavy song. The shoegaze touched song has plenty of hooks, especially when the band performs like they’re in a tunnel. The squeals from the guitars make for a nice touch in delivering a meatier tone from the five piece.
“Hard To Swallow” can be heard above or on all streaming sites. 12th House Rock can be preordered on various formats and bundles from Run For Cover Records ahead of its August 28 release. Narrow Head is set to appear at Benefit Week to raise money for independent live music venues in Houston August 24 through 30 via Nonnchorus.
