Thirty years ago California punks Bad Religion released their humanist anthem “Faith Alone.” Back then it felt important but in today’s overly politicized and divided culture, it feels essential. To really show how far they’ve come the band has re-recorded the track and done so in a way that steers away from their punk side on “Faith Alone 2020.”
Away from clashing guitars, the version here is more piano driven. The words feel more personal and hit harder with the piano as the lead. Backed with an orchestra, the single immediately sounds more important as the lyrics ring out as you’re forced to pay closer attention to them. When the drums come in the track gets more intense while still backed by the orchestra offering a new sound to the 1990 single.
The song can be heard above or on all streaming platforms. It can be purchased in all digital outlets via Epitaph Records. Bad Religion is set to release their autobiography Do What You Want: The Story of Bad Religion available for preorder here ahead of its August 18 release.
