In the world of singer songwriters, few have covered as much ground as Elvis Costello. Active for fifty years, his output alone is masterful. Now with a new album Hey Clockface coming in October, Costello has revealed several singles that show his more diverse side. His latest drop “Phonographic Memory” ticks up that expanse with a spoken word track that’s as intriguing as it is delightful.

While it is a spoken word track, the music here is Costello revealing some of his finest work. The acoustic guitar rings with a warmth that intermingles against Costello’s voice. The music here isn’t as focused as the words, yet there’s a softness and almost calming pace of the music within.
