Back in May, Houston’s Axelrad hosted a rooftop concert above their sprawling outdoor bar. The show that featured performances by Flower Graves and El Lago was more than likely the first of its kind since the pandemic began. Now that the smoke has cleared, El Lago has released the concert in its entirety, and it’s pretty entertaining. Shot by the team at Wonky Power, the audio was then mixed by Steve Christensen (Khruangbin, Leon Bridges) before being released.
The fifty plus minute performance features songs from the band’s latest EP Pyramid alongside songs from their debut full length Colors. With new opening and closing visuals, the set is definitely a career spanning performance. Taken from the May 23 set, there’s a magic in how the band sways between their more shoegaze derived tracks from their early years and their more post punk graced tones from their more recent work. Fans of the band who have never caught them live get a glimpse into their energy while also getting to hear their music in a live setting.
The concert can be viewed above or on YouTube. The band’s music can be purchased physically directly from Bandcamp or from all digital outlets. It’s also available to stream on all streaming sites.
