For years Bob Mould has disguised songs’ meanings buried under a haze of snappy strides and his big guitar tones. While he’s been more direct in recent years, his new single “Siberian Butterfly” doesn’t mince words. The track taken from his upcoming full length Blue Hearts tackles self identity and even self hate while also showcasing that classic Bob Mould sound.
Mould comes in hot as the song has an immediacy to it. Mixing his intense guitar with bombastic drums and a hearty bass. Mould sings with energy and heft here coupled with backing vocals to create a sound that works at every turn. The video featuring the rest of his band Jason Narducy and Jon Wurster is also covered in colorful graphics and imagery that pair perfectly with the song.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song is ready to stream wherever you stream music. Blue Hearts can be preordered on various formats directly from Merge Records before its September 25 release.
