Gorillaz may seem like a studio project made up of Damon Alburn and friends, yet the very real group has figured out how to steer their own path while incorporating a heavy hit list of collaborators. With a new album announced for release in October, Song Machine:Season One-Strange Timez will have collabs from Elton John, St Vincent Beck and more. On their latest single they get spacey while featuring Robert Smith of The Cure for “Strange Timez.”
The track has a more soundscape touch. Building with varying tones, Smith’s vocals come in early and offer his typical witchy sound. With Alburn still performing vocal duties, the two artists intertwine various tones to come together in the best way possible. The video for the song has the animated group traveling through space to the funky new track. When things pick up the song gets catchy and hard to ignore while intermingling new sounds even for a group as diverse as Gorillaz.
The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song can be heard on all streaming sites. Song Machine: Season One-Strange Timez can be preordered in various bundles and formats directly from the band before its October 23 release date. Gorillaz will be livestreaming a set on December 12 and on December 13 via LiveNow.
