While Rhett Miller basks in the acclaim the new Old 97’s album Twelfth has received, he’s still just an artist trying to get through this pandemic with grace. While fans of the band know that Miller is an accomplished Americana artist in his own right, getting a glimpse into his world is always appreciated. As part of the Mighty SONG Writers Video series, Miller recently shared his interpretations of some songs out of the Great American Songbook. Benefiting the Mighty Writers association, Miller delivers plenty of honesty alongside advice.
While raising money for the Philadelphia organization that teaches kids to write with clarity, Miller plays songs by Johnny Cash, a song by Carole King, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and even an original song. The beauty in the video is hearing how much Miller loves the craft of songwriting as well as the advice and the stories behind how the songs were crafted.
