Over the years it’s become apparent that an artist like Stephen Malkmus can do whatever he pleases and he will still have our attention. Whether he’s reuniting Pavement or releasing a new album with The Jicks, he’s definitely capturing your ears. So after his electronic album Groove Denied last year and his more folk touched sound on Traditional Techniques this year, you’d think that he would be tapped on new music. You’d of course be wrong as he’s dropped an album B-Side called “Juliefuckingette” and like all of his work, it’s pretty darn great.
Steering closer to his more indie folk side, Malkmus dives in and offers a happy go lucky stride. With his vocals keeping the balance, he delivers all of the upbeat and catchy sounds that you’d expect while still holding his integrity in the process. The song pops and stays with you after it plays further expanding his sound at the same time.
The song can be heard above or wherever you stream music. Traditional Techniques can be purchased in physical formats from Matador Records. Stephen Malkmus will be back on tour beginning March 02 at Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis, MN until April 24 at The Showbox in Seattle, WA. His complete tour schedule is accessible here.
