Craft can sometimes be difficult to come by in music. When you do experience it, many times it’s because it was done by someone other than the artist. What makes the music of John Allen Stephens so graceful and passionate sounding is that he’s also a producer by trade. His ears are tunes to melody while his heart is deep in ardent emotion. On his new stand alone single “Motorcycle” you can hear that fervent approach with a stylized craft that not only captures your attention, but holds it long enough to get you indebted to what you’re hearing.
Opening with live drums, the vocals come in against horns and a soft guitar. Stephens immediately gets into the rhyme and drops a flow that he backs with these harmonic vocals. Hitting the falsetto when needed, the way the song sways between R&B and pop is masterful. The brass that plays off of the upbeat stride gives the song a heightened tone that you can’t deny as you bop along with every note.
The song is available to stream above. It will be made live on all streaming platforms at noon central time today, and will also be available to purchase in all digital outlets via Third Coast.
