Deerhoof Drops Surprise Covers Album

As far as bands go, Deerhoof will always intrigue no matter what they decide to do. Away from their intense live shows, the San Francisco based band really never disappoints when it comes to recorded music. On their new surprise covers album Love-Lore they tackle songs from Omette Coleman to The Beach Boys in their own style and grace.

While it looks like five tracks at first glance, the release is done in medley form meaning that it’s actually forty-three songs. The “Knight Rider” theme, “The Jetsons” theme and “The Rainbow Connection” from “The Muppet Movie” all get squeezed in. This gets done alongside covers by Sun Ra, Voivod, The B 52’s and more.

Recorded in one day in New York City at Rivington Rehearsal Studios, the release is as wild as it sounds while the group adds their flair to each track. The compositions have the band’s signature quirks while honoring the song’s original sound. It’s a masterful approach that works again and again. Standouts here come with the theme songs swirling into other tracks. The “Knight Rider” theme, “The Rainbow Connection” and more all get the Deerhoof touch. It’s a wild ride that proves that the San Francisco four piece may be the only ones who could create such a release.

The album is available as a digital bundle with a limited run poster directly from Joyful Noise Recordings. It can also be streamed on Bandcamp and purchased there as well.
