This year has been a real tough one for touring musicians. The pandemic has hit artists and venues harder than many industries. One of the saving graces is that artists continue to perform via the internet, and because of that we’ve gotten plenty of sets we wouldn’t normally receive. We’re big fans of Angel Olsen here, in fact one of our earliest articles was a review of a set she performed at in Austin solo. What we got that night was a mix of old favorites and songs that would end up on both All Mirrors and Whole New Mess. Recently Olsen offered up an NPR Tiny Desk Concert from the porch of her home in Asheville. What you’ll witness is the intimacy of these songs like we caught when we witnessed her stunning solo set.
The performance has a real personal feel, probably because the songs are all so personal. Performing on her Silvertone 1381 “Jimmy Reed” model guitar, the lipstick pickups help resonate the guitar’s tones while Olsen sings like a bird in the rain.
The set list:
“Whole New Mess”
“Iota”
“What It Is (What It Is)”
“Waving, Smiling”
The set is ready to view above or on YouTube. Whole New Mess and All Mirrors are both available directly from Jagjaguwar Records. They can also be purchased from all digital outlets or streamed wherever you stream music.
