On his last full length album Gary Clark Jr. showed that he was more than just a guy who could really slay on guitar. Swaying between blues and soul with precision, he kept our attention to show that he’s more than what many critics wanted to place him as. Now with his new single “Valley of Last Resort” alongside Gustavo Santaolalla, he delves deeper into new territory while offering up classic licks.
The song has a nice feel to it. Intermingling between the acoustic playing of Santaolalla and the squealing twang of Clark Jr. The pace of the song is upbeat but far from pop. The song works well with the vocals at the top of the mix and the music laid underneath. Clark Jr. adds vocals as well, opening things up and making the collaboration more hefty with plenty of genre mixing that delivers the goods.
“Valley of Last Resort” is available to listen to above or on all streaming platforms. It’s also available to purchase in all online music stores via Warner Records.
