Bands like Cloud Nothings don’t really repeat themselves. Over the years their sound has changed while they’ve grown into the unknown. With a new album The Shadow I Remember coming next year, the band has returned to some of their old ways without repeating themselves. How they wrote songs, how they orchestrated things and even working with Steve Albini should make the album their most realized to date. Their latest single “Am I Something” definitely proves just that.

While the video is a wild trip of animation, the energy in how the track opens should make long time fans happy. The drums hitting with intensity with the vocals mixed at the top is a familiar theme. While the song goes well beyond what you may be expecting, it’s fresh in tone and how it plays out. The vocals are raw and in the moment while the guitars and backing vocals add weight to an already weighted song you can sink your teeth into.
