Tricky Surprise Dropped a Killer New E.P.

Since 1985 Tricky has been dropping some of the craziest and sickest tracks out there. A couple of months ago he signaled his return with a new full length Fall To Pieces. Now he’s surprise released a companion E.P. titled Doorway, with three new mixes of the track by the same name, and it’s a real trip.

The opener “Doorway (No More Mix)” separates the vocals from the rest of the music to create a truly unique sound. There’s space between the beat and the vocals while still sounding correct in its presentation. The dark synths that play underneath offer a weight to the track without weighing it down. For “Doorway (All The Way Mix)” the approach is quite different. Vocals at the top of the mix with full band instruments in tow, there’s a quieted allure here while still bumping. The closing track of the three, “Doorway (Talking With Maxine Mix)” offers the largest difference in tone overall. Dark and brooding with strings and the hushed vocals, the song takes you down a deeply woven path that offers more mystery than you’re expecting.

The E.P. is available to stream on all streaming sites or to purchase in all digital outlets. Fall To Pieces can be purchased physically directly from False Idols. Tricky will be on tour beginning February 02 in Copenhagen, Denmark at Hotel Cecil until March 30 at Atlas in Kiev, Ukraine. His tour schedule is accessible here.
