While all of the members of Big Thief have stayed busy during the pandemic alongside the heft of releases by the band, Buck Meek has stayed equally as creatively charged. With a new solo album Two Saviors coming in January, Meek has a new single “Pareidolia” that delivers a sound that’s as gazed upon in tone as the title suggests. Full of lush instrumentation and arrangements that would please any composer, Meek gives you more than enough here to fall for.
Meek’s guitar opens the track with its usual strummed tone before things open up with a crash of sounds. Meeting with his meandering vocals, the keys paint a delicate melody as he sings above the brush stroked drums. The song has a melodic approach that steers from his previous album’s tone. The backing vocals offer a balanced sound that’s wondrous and illustrious while the pace of the song is upbeat without heading into a pop territory.
The single can be heard above or on all streaming sites. Two Saviors is available for preorder on various formats directly from Keeled Scales ahead of its January 15 release.
