Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio seems to be quite the busy guy. Between the band and his solo career, it seems like there’s plenty on his plate. Now with a third solo album Dead Hand Control announced for release in late January, his two lead single “Endless Me, Endlessly” and “What Do You Say When I’m Not There?” offer plenty of indie pop sparkle.
For “Endless Me, Endlessly,” the pop sounds are eloquent and immediate. The mix of deep vocals and backing vocals do the track justice against the catchy synths and beat. The talk sing vocals pair well with the David Byrne sounding song, complete with the same amount of irreverence and quirkiness. The video goes well with the song with the revrse recorded imagery.
On “What Do You Say When I’m Not There?” the pop structures are on full display. With catchy pacing the song gets into your head quickly while the clustered beats offer plenty of upbeat vibes. The video featuring what appears to be film off of an 8mm camera has a nice gritty texture to juxtapose the pop sounds.
Both videos can be watched above while both singles are ready to stream on all streaming sites. Dead Hand Control can be preordered directly from Glassnote Music before its January 29 release.
