Grandaddy Releases Two Cover Songs

For the years they were more active than in recent times, Grandaddy showed us how soulful an act could be without making soul music. The band has always brought a certain tonal quality to their music that stuck with you well after you heard it. Now as the year gets closer to ending they’ve released a two song E.P. Over Covers consisting of two cover songs. The first is “The Fox In The Snow” by Belle & Sebastian and the second is “In My Room” by The Beach Boys. Two very different tracks that feel perfect here.

On “The Fox In The Snow” the softness of the vocals balances out the weight of the piano. The gentle tones of the original sound perfect here as Jason Lytle offers the song up as a tender and kindhearted cover. For “In My Room” the general sound of the song gets reworked through the Grandaddy lens. Stripping away the surf guitar sounds and the two part harmonies, Lytle does well on his own by taking the song to a new place. Steering away from a particular sound for another that works just as well here as it does on the original.

The E.P. is available to listen to above or wherever you stream music. It can be purchased in all digital outlets including through Bandcamp.
