Eddie Vedder Unleashes New Songs

In recent years Eddie Vedder has proven more than just the front man for the band Pearl Jam. With various offerings for his solo catalog, he released a few songs earlier this year with “Matter of Time” and “Say Hi.” Now Vedder has expanded the two song release into an E.P. with Matter of Time. Added are an acoustic version of the Pearl Jam classic “Porch,” an acoustic version of “Future Days” and an acoustic version of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe.” The highlight of the E.P. comes with a Bruce Springsteen cover that feels heartfelt and emotionally charged.

Where “Matter of Time” has that earmarked and serious piano opening, the song definitely makes for a great way to open the EP. Vedder sounds eloquent here, using the piano to expand on what you know his sound to be past his baritone. For “Just Breathe,” the acoustic tones from his home have a different resonance that works and works well. This continues into “Future Days” and “Porch.”

The latter has a more opened up sound where the singer songwriter takes the song into a new place. The acoustic delivers a more heartened approach to the song that always had a dark tone prior to how it sounds here. However the Springsteen cover is where the magic lies. “Growin’ Up” has a real tenderness to it. The acoustic noodling lends Vedder’s vocals to ring out as he gleefully sings the classic track. Vedder sounds natural here, taking you deep into the song while offering his own version of it at the same time.

Matter of Time can be streamed on all streaming sites or purchased in all digital outlets. Eddie Vedder is set to perform a solo set at Ohana Festival in Dana Point, CA on September 25. Pearl Jam will be on tour starting June 16 at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands until September 26 at Ohana Festival in Dana Point, CA. All tour dates can be accessed here
