Few bands are as creative or as prolific as Australia’s King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Aside from dropping albums left and right, they’ve also decided to let fans and indie labels bootleg their music. A spot on their Bandcamp and their website give details on how to go about the process. One of the releases up for grabs is a live album Live In London ’19. The seventeen track album was recorded in 2019 at Alexandra Palace in London, UK.
Opening with “Evil Star” taken from the band’s recent drop Chunky Shrapnel, the band heads down its twisted road with enthusiasm. However the rest of the set steers from newer tracks and heads deep into spaces from throughout the band’s catalog. Depending on what you consider new or old, the expansive set covers lots of territory. “Mars For the Rich” from Infest the Rats’ Nest gets a real psych makeover with wild group vocals. “Crumbling Castle” off Polygondwanaland makes an appearance as well. All in all, the performance is on par with the wild and unfettered sets the band has been known to play on the regular. The biggest play comes with “Mr. Beat” from Nonagon Infinity where that seven four time signature sounds as perfect as you’d expect.
Live In London ’19 is available to purchase directly from Bandcamp. Vinyls can be purchased from the band’s web store or from ATO Records as well. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will return to touring beginning June 02 in Barcelona, Spain at Primavera Sound until October 24 in Washington, DC at The Anthem. Their complete tour schedule can be accessed here.
