In the world of Bill Callahan and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy cover songs, there are just some acts that feel like the perfect collaborators for this series of singles. So when we heard that Ty Segall was included on their latest cover of a Johnny Frierson song, it only made sense that the three would work together. The DIY cassette track they chose is “Miracles” and they do the gospel touched track plenty of justice.
Utilizing a more disjointed tone, the mix of electronics and fuzzy instruments works well with Callahan’s vocals. The backing vox add to the off-kilter track without taking away its mystique. When additional vocals come in they just make the song stronger. The proggy presentation with electronics, varying vocals and brass create a sound that’s immediate and fall in line with the cover series from the two.
The song can be heard above or on all streaming sites. It can be purchased in all digital outlets including Bandcamp or directly from Drag City Records.
