True heft in music can come from anywhere. The artists who understand that weight can come from a gentle voice also understand that it can come from distorted guitars. The Body have always been a duo that understands what being truly heavy music is. With a new album I’ve Seen All I Need To See coming in a few weeks, the experimental duo have shared a new song “Tied Up and Locked in,” and it defines what heavy music can be.
Distortion, it’s everywhere here. On the drums, on the riffs, literally everywhere. It coats the droning pace in a way that makes you wonder if your speakers have blown. Between howls into the night, it corrodes as it crafts an almost orchestra of the effect. Abusive and abrasive, hen the vocals come in they seem to have distortion on them as well. It;s okay because it works in helping you achieve total darkness. The brooding tones are on another level of heaviness, and you’ll need an aspirin when the track ends.
The single is ready to stream above or wherever you stream music. I’ve Seen All That I Need To See is available for preorder directly from Thrill Jockey Records before its January 29 release.
