The Black Pumas have nothing left to prove. With a slew of Grammy nominations and nods towards their debut album Black Pumas, the band continues to impress with whatever they do. After rerecording a new version of “Colors” it seems that would be what we’d hear from them in the future. However when they performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the other night, they brought a softer version of the song to life.
The performance is bright in colors and set design. The song has a more tender tone, focused an with less production within. The vocals are more noticeable, the prechorus has a finite demeanor as the background singers come in against the organ. The sound is more easy going yet it still sparkles and pops just like the original. The swagger is still here as well, as is the soul proving how diverse the group can be.
The performance can be seen above or on YouTube. Black Pumas can be purchased in a deluxe edition directly from ATO Records. The Black Pumas will be at House of Blues in Chicago. IL on April 26 until November 19 in Amsterdam, North Holland at AFAS Live. Their tour schedule is accessible here.
