Canada’s The Besnard Lakes have been absent for about four years. Their last album was the 2016 release A Coliseum Complex Museum, though the band is back and ready to trip us out with their psych sounds. With a new double album The Besnard Lakes Are The Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings due next week, their latest single “Our Heads, Our Hearts on Fire Again” is the band at their best.
The animated video is full of colors which compliments the song well. Closer to modern psych than rehashed tones from the past, the track opens with a textured build between synths and vocals. There’s mystery in how the song plays out, holding your attention as you eagerly await the following bars. When things open up they go big with a bombastic tone and almost signal a rebirth. The grand tones within have the band sounding better than they have in years while you soak up all of the magic within.
The video can be viewed above and the song can be heard on all streaming platforms. The Besnard Lakes Are The Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings can be preordered directly from Fat Cat Records. The Besnard Lakes will be live-streaming shows February 05 through April 03. Their tour starts on September 22 at Charlatan in Gent, Belgium until October 09 in Birmingham, UK at The Castle & Falcon. Their tour dates can be accessed here.
