If you take nothing else out of the music of Hand Habits it should be that Meg Duffy is an amazing songwriter and singer. While they have a new EP titled dirt coming in a week, their new cover of the Neil Young After The Gold Rush song “I Believe In You” is a stunning reminder of Duffy’s skill st while making the song their own in the process.
The approach here is very different from the original. However it works so well. The quirky tones that mix with Duffy’s vocals makes for a warming spot in your head. Duffy signals a change in how the song was constructed without completely deconstructing it. The ed result is a beautiful rendition of the classic song while lifting it up in a new way. The backing vocals, the guitar tones and the build of the track pay off and never disappoint.
The song can be heard above or wherever you stream music. The dirt EP can be preordered directly from Saddle Creek Records ahead of its February 19 release.
