Quebec’s Men I Trust has had no problem capturing the ears for anyone who’s heard them. Their last full length Oncle Jazz was one of our favorites in 2019. No in the new year they have a new single “Tides” and you’ll find that it almost invites you to get down in the most relaxed way possible.

The song opens with this funky wah wah based sound. The keys play a tone that falls throughout the track before the vocals come in as soft as a whisper. There’s a relaxed sound here, offering up a sound that’s a bit different from Oncle Jazz without getting too distanced from it. These sparkles of keys dance throughout while the vocals wash over you like the warmth of Spring. There’s quite a bit happening here though masked in the melodic tones and the strong vocal presence. the mix of that wah wah sound gets met with horn toned keys and jabs of funky bass. The synths create their own space while staying within the song at the same time. It all works and then some, holding your attention from beginning to end.
