It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything new from Dinosaur Jr. In fact, it’s been five years since their last proper full length. While iconic bands of their stature don’t have to live by the album cycle rules for regular acts, getting new music from the original trio is always a treat. Now the band has announced a new album Sweep It Into Space coming in April. To celebrate the new album they’ve also dropped a new song “I Ran Away” with a visualizer video that shows the band is still growing their sound.
Opening with thundering drums, the use of acoustic throws your ears for a bit. With those J Mascis vocals it’s immediately recognizable as a Dinosaur Jr. song. However with a different type of guitar driving the sound rather than a Big Muff driven electric, it’s definitely different. That being said the song has these great dual vocals and a hook that draws you in. The video features album artwork that flows much like the song itself.
The visualizer video can be viewed above. The single can be heard on all streaming sites. Sweep It Into Space can be preordered on varying formats and bundles from Jagjaguwar before its April 23 release. Dinosaur Jr. is set to appear at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Spain on June 03 until July 27-30 at Camp Fuzz in Big Indian, NY. Their tour schedule is available here.
