U.K. sensation Cavetown made quite the splash when he signed to Sire Records. Now the youthful singer songwriter has a full length with Sleepyhead that showcases his place in the music world with top tiered production to match his folky sound. To keep the music going he’s announced a companion release Sleepyhead (Extras) coming in late March. The first “extra” to be revealed is his beautiful cover of the Big Thief song “Paul” that will stay with you after you hear it.
The tenderness in the cover is on display from the jump. The vocals are doubled to give a bit of an Elliott Smith feel here as things roll out with a beautiful tone. The song takes on a bit of a new life without steering from the original. The guitar and vocals together drive home the softness in the cover. There’s a harmonic note deliver on the song that takes hold as the vocals are the driving factor. It’s a simple cover but it works with earnest and sincere intentions.
The cover can be heard above or on all streaming platforms. Sleepyhead (Extras) is available for presave via Sire Records ahead of its March 26 release date. Cavetown is scheduled to appear at FM4 Frequency in Sankt Aegidi, Austria on August 20 and at Ohana Festival in Dan Point, CA on September 26.
