For a while now St. Vincent has been teasing a new album coming soon. Aside from a few livestreams and the album she produced for Sleater-Kinney, we haven’t seen much of Annie Clark since the tour behind her last album Masseduction. However things have just changed as she’s announced her new album Daddy’s Home coming in May. The album co-produced between Clark and Jack Antonoff has also revealed a new single and video for “Pay Your Way In Pain.”
The song has a real throwback sound, like a mix of seventies and eighties electronica pop. It’s a bit funky and wild as the vocals stand above the synths that sway between the notes. The chorus has a real stark sound that works as the keys and instruments hold this swagger with backing vocals that play underneath. The video also has an appearance of videos from the seventies and eighties with varying layers of light and dual images of St. Vincent. It all works so well as the song is definitely upbeat.
The video is ready to watch above or on YouTube. The song can be heard on all streaming sites. Daddy’s Home is available to preorder from Loma Vista Recordings ahead of its May 14 release in various formats and bundles.
