The Black Angels Share Live Version of “Manipulation”

As far as psych bands go, the live sets from Austin’s The Black Angels are fairly unparalleled. While their music is on the same level, their upcoming live album Live At Levitation promises to be a trippy experience for anyone who hears it. To celebrate the album’s release this Friday, the band has revealed “Manipulation” from the upcoming album alongside a video that goes as far down the rabbit hole as the song itself.

There’s definitely more drawing out of the song here. Between the strewn across guitar parts and the sitar, the band takes the song into a new space here. There’s almost nothing left after the band tears into the song with an eager tendency. There’s a mixture of percussive elements and meandering tones here that suck you in to the band’s expansive presentation of the song. The video is as mysterious as the song. Moments of darkness spliced between the band performing the song take you elsewhere as you experience the band doing what they do best-blowing an audience’s minds.

The video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The Black Angels: Live At Levitation can be preordered directly from The Reverb Appreciation Society in various vinyl colorways and bundles before its March 26 release. It can also be preordered in all digital music outlets.
