Australian psych group POND have always had the ability to mix things up and go in a new direction throughout their career. But while the Perth group has made their name for always keeping their audience on their toes, their new single offers a sound that’s far from what you may expect. Jittery and jangled, “Pink Lunettes” shows the band’s quirky side while keeping us guessing as to what’s next. The accompanying video is just as frenzied as the groove of the song.
The song has these almost electronic tones that flow from the bass and drums. The vocals are in a punk measure and deliver the words in a rapid fire way. The song takes what the band has become known for and turns the tables with a more rhythm based sound. The keys that come in offer more hooks to an already upbeat song. There’s also a deep groove here that mixes in eighties sounds that works on multiple levels. The video features the band’s lead singer performing the song in a room with flashes of light illuminating his visage.
The video for the song can be watched above or on YouTube. “Pink Lunettes” can be streamed wherever you stream music or purchased in all digital outlets via Spinning Top Records. POND will be on tour beginning April 09 at The River in Margaret River, Australia until May 01 at Magnet House in Perth, Australia. Their tour schedule can be accessed here.
