Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar is racing towards the release of his anticipated new album Afrique Victime coming in May. In a time when the uncertainty of live performances is on everyone’s mind, the much lauded guitarist is announcing a live-stream taking place later this month. To celebrate the news he’s revealed an energetic live video performance of the song “Afrique Victime” backed by his full band.
Shot in December of last year outside of a friend’s home on the outer side of Niamey, Niger, the performance is enigmatic and full of passionate sounds. The guitar work is masterful as is the full band, offering up a sound that goes deep within the area’s music while showcasing the guitarist’s skill set. As the makeshift live set has plenty of onlookers, the energy from the music washes over you and bathes you in the band’s power together in a live setting.
The live video can be viewed above or on YouTube. The song “Afrique Victime” can be heard on all streaming sites. The album Afrique Victime is available for preorder on multiple formats from Matador Records ahead of its May 21 release. Mdou Moctar will perform live via live-stream on April 22 via Bandcamp. Tickets are available here.
