This Friday Dinosaur Jr. will release their new album Sweep It Into Space. From the singles released so far, the sound of the band has opened up past reeling guitar solos and hearty fuzzed out tones. Instead what you hear is use of other instruments and newly arranged moments where new forms of songwriting can thrive. The band’s new single “Take It Back” is a great example of that while its accompanying video is purely what you’d expect from the trio.
With a piano and a happy go lucky sound, the song is upbeat and catchy. Following a sense of whimsy, the song still holds the fuzzy guitar moments that have made the band infamous. The keys play out along with the guitar and keep things fun and mix up what the band are known for. It works and delivers a new way to experience the band’s music. The video is stop-motion animation and claymation that tells the tale of a creature feeling seemingly alone in the world before its place with others.
The video is ready to watch above or on YouTube. The song can be heard wherever you stream music. Sweep It Into Space can be preordered on various formats directly from Jagjaguwar Records before its April 23 release. Dinosaur Jr. is on tour starting May 01 in Cambridge, MA at The Sinclair via livestream until February 26, 2022 at Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO. Their complete tour schedule can be accessed here.
