Soccer Mommy Shares Stand Alone Single

It’s hard to believe that we haven’t seen Soccer Mommy perform her latest album Color Theory in person yet. Thanks to the pandemic, those shows eluded us. However with a large scale tour beginning in September, the band is back with a new stand alone single, “rom com 2004.” While the song steers from what you may be used to, it still carries a chorus that will win you over. Produced by BJ Burton it has the sounds of a glitched out version of what the band is known for.

While the video combines Nintendo Wii type graphics with 8-bit touches, the song has the vocals start things off with electronics in the underside. However the vocals are the drive here as they grow and expand into a higher register and pull you closer as the song plays. There are moments where the vocals are primarily the audible part well above the music. There’s a happy and kind of pop fueled sound to the track as it slows down and picks up with ease. The electronics have a glitchy and metallic tone that come as go while the vocals hold your attention throughout.

The video can be viewed above. “rom com 2004” can be heard on all streaming sites. It can also be purchased in all digital outlets via Loma Vista Recordings. Soccer Mommy is on tour starting September 15 in Atlanta, GA at Variety Playhouse until November 09 at Delmar Hall in St. Louis, MO. Their complete tour dates can be accessed here.
