Big Thief Return with Two New Songs

No matter who you ask, you’re probably ready for new music. If you asked us we’d definitely say yes and offer up the two new songs by Big Thief. While these songs aren’t the two new albums they revealed last year, they do have plenty of consistent vibes. Standing on the cuff of what’s next, they’re easily ahead of many while waiting for what’s next at the same time.

On “Little Things” the band is already in the middle of the song when we meet them. Singer Adrianne Lenker loses herself in the music. Going deep early in and staying there, she takes our ears with her and feeds them massive bags of food. Where we may be ready for new music, we aren’t taking things as literal as Lenker seems to be. With the band channeling behind her in a way that sounds harmonic and grandiose, we’re also steps behind Lenker in her approach to the music. However being in that space means that we can hear her mistakes as well as her well placed emotions as well.

For “Sparrow” things are more intense while staying closer to the pockets. Joined by other instrumentalists, here Lenker gets met with a calming nurture versus a strong set of drums. Letting her vocals draw above us and just take in her voice take in us and allow for them to fester in the moment. However here the band seems to just follow up rather than offer a strong semblance, and their strength is obvious  here. There’s a simple nature to how Lenker gets her words out, backed by a remembrance here that doesn’t walk away anytime soon.

Both songs are wonderfully done here. They can both be downloaded here. They can also be streamed on all streaming sites or purchased directly from 4 ad. Big Thief will be on tour this Fall. starting August 21 at Garden Amphitheater in Garden Grove, CA until June 09 at Primavera Sound 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. Their tour dates can be accessed here.
